The Streamer Awards is an annual awards show dedicated to live streamers.[2][3] It was founded in 2022 by Twitch streamer QTCinderella to award and celebrate other streamers, primarily in the Twitch community.[4] Nominees are selected via an online vote by fans[5][6] and winners are then determined using a weighted combination of the online popular vote (70%) and panelist vote (30%).[7][8][9]
The show consists of two main segments – a red carpet show that has interviews with the nominees and internet personalities as they arrive for the show,[10] and the main award show where nominees are reviewed and winners are revealed.[11][12] At various points during the awards portion of the show there are musical performances.[13]
History
The event has been held thrice since its inaugural ceremony in March 2022.
The second edition of the awards took place on March 11, 2023, at The Wiltern in Los Angeles.[21] Streamers were nominated by their fans. For the nominations to be considered, the streamers must have had at least 200 total hours streamed in 2022.[2] This was followed by a popular vote among the nominated streamers to decide the winner.[citation needed] The event was hosted by QTCinderella and Valkyrae.
This year, the show was presented by, and exclusively streaming on, Twitch.[22] The event was also sponsored by AT&T, Spotify, Fansly, Nitro Stream Racing, Mountain Dew, and KFC.[23]
The third edition of the Streamer Awards took place on February 17, 2024, at The Wiltern in Los Angeles.[28] Streamers were once again nominated by fans. For nominations to be considered, the streamers must have streamed 200 total hours in 2023, along with 100 hours streamed for any specific category such as Best Battle Royale Streamer and Chess Streamer.[29] Nominations closed on January 19, 2024, after which QTCinderella announced that 286,000 people had submitted nominations.[30] On January 24, 2024, the nominees and hosts were announced, and voting was opened.[31] Once voting closed on February 7, 2024, QTCinderella announced on X that 639,609 votes were cast.[32]
The ceremony was co-hosted by Pokimane, while the red carpet was hosted by CDawgVA, ExtraEmily, and Will Neff; AustinShow served as floor host,[31] and Prezoh conducted backstage interviews with the winners,[33] which would be uploaded on the Patreon page for QTCinderella and Maya Higa's podcast, Wine About It.[34]
For this edition, eight new categories were added (Best Creative Arts Streamer, Best Software And Game Development Streamer, Best Fighting Games Streamer, Best Shared Channel, Best Streamed Series, Best International Streamer, Best Breakthrough Streamer, and The Sapphire Award), two were removed (Best Soulslike Streamer and Best Philanthropic Stream Event), and four were merged into existing or new categories (Best Art Streamer and Best Music Streamer merged into Best Creative Arts Streamer, Best League of Legends Streamer merged into Best Strategy Game Streamer, and Best VALORANT Streamer merged into Best FPS Streamer).
This was the first edition to be streamed on multiple platforms and had interactive features for viewers on Twitch, including "pickems".[35]
This edition of the awards peaked at 645,166 live concurrent viewers across all platforms and channels,[36] the most of any of the previous editions.
The fourth edition of the Streamer Awards will take place on December 7, 2024, at the Mayan Theatre in Los Angeles.[38][39] The event is scheduled to be produced in collaboration with Offbrand, following a successful event the previous year.[40] This is the first time the awards are held in fourth quarter of the year instead of the first.
Voting for new categories opened on October 17, 2024,[41] with nominations opening on October 28, 2024 and nominees being announced on November 11, 2024.[42]
For this edition, five new categories were added (Best MOBA Streamer, Best Sports Streamer, Best Fortnite Streamer, Best Streamed Collab, and Best Marathon Stream).[43][44]
