Amourj (arabisch آﻣﻮرج) ist eine Stadt in der Region Hodh Ech Chargui von Mauretanien und Hauptstadt des Départements Amourj.

Geographie

Der Hauptort der Gemeinde Amourj liegt 955 Kilometer östlich von Nouakchott auf etwa 287 m Meereshöhe im Südosten des Beckens El Hodh, das einen großen Teil des Südostens von Mauretanien einnimmt. Die malische Grenze ist 67 Kilometer entfernt. Das Gemeindegebiet hat eine Fläche von 152,00 km².[1][2]

Bevölkerung

Die Bevölkerungszahl der Gemeinde hat in den Jahren 2000 bis 2023 von 5037 auf 9604 Einwohner zugenommen.[1] Der Hauptort selbst hat 7123 Einwohner (2023). Daneben gibt es noch 12 andere bewohnte Orte.[3]

Verkehr

Amourj wird nicht vom Netz der Nationalstraßen bedient. Der Verbindung mit dem Fernverkehr dient eine 47 Kilometer lange asphaltierte Stichstraße, die von der aus Richtung Nouakchott und Néma kommenden N3 abzweigt und im Hauptort endet. Die weiter südlich liegenden Gemeinden Bougadoum, Dieigui, Legdour und Oum Eacheiche sind nur auf Staubpisten zu erreichen. Für die südlich benachbarte Départementspräfektur Adel Bagrou galt das Gleiche; allerdings ist eine fest trassierte Route für die 67 Kilometer voneinander entfernten Orte geschaffen worden, die aber nach dem Stand von 2025 aus der Satellitenperspektive allenfalls als Schotterpiste gelten kann.[4]
