Austinixa ist eine Gattung der Pinnotheridae mit dreizehn rezenten Arten.[1] Sie bewohnen die Gezeitenzone und den Schelf in Tiefen zwischen 0 und 130 m im tropischen Westatlantik und im östlichen Indopazifik. Sie sind Kommensalen bei grabenden Geistergarnelen der Familie Callianassidae und röhrenbewohnenden Vielborstern.[2] Der Gattungsname ist Austin B. Williams vom National Marine Fisheries Service für seine Verdienste um die Systematik der Krabben der US-amerikanischen Ostküste gewidmet.[3]
Merkmale
Der Carapax ist bis 8 mm lang, 1,8- bis 3-mal so breit und bei Weibchen querelliptisch. Die Regionen sind nur schwach definiert, die hintere Fläche nahe der Herzregion wird von einem deutlichen Kamm gekreuzt. Der Finger des dritten Maxillipeden steht mit dem Propodus proximal dessen Mitte in gelenkiger Verbindung und ist nahezu parallel zu diesem orientiert. Der Exopodit hat am mittleren Seitenrand einen winkligen Lappen. Das vorletzte Schreitbein ist deutlich kräftiger als die übrigen und länger als die angrenzenden.[2]
