Austinograea ist eine Gattung der Krabben-Familie Bythograeidae mit sechs Arten.[1] Sie besiedeln hydrothermale Quellen am Kontinentalhang und auf dem Tiefseeboden in Tiefen zwischen 1450 und 3660 m im Bereich des Ostpazifischen Rückens, im Indischen Ozean und im Südchinesischen Meer.[2]

Merkmale

Der flache Carapax wird bis zu 38 mm lang und ist vor der Mitte am breitesten. Augen, Antennulen und Antennen sind tief unter der Stirn eingesenkt. Der Augenhöhlenrand ist unvollständig geschlossen. Die Augen sind unbeweglich, die Augenstiele rudimentär und in die Augenhöhlenwand eingebettet. Die Cornea ist unpigmentiert oder fehlt. Die Coxa des dritten Maxillipeden ist in Bauchansicht teilweise verborgen, die seitliche Erweiterung durch die Verbindung zwischen dem Bauchrand des Carapax in der Gegend des Pterygostoms mit dem vorderen Seitenrand des Sternums und der Coxa des Scherenbeins verdeckt. Das zweite Gonopodium ist kürzer als das erste.[2]
