Autoregulation, auch autogene Regulation, autogene Kontrolle oder Selbstregulation, ist ein grundlegendes Funktionsprinzip biologischer Organismen.[1] Sie findet beispielsweise in der Physiologie des menschlichen und des tierischen Körpers fortlaufend statt, meist bei Veränderung statischer Zustände und unbemerkt. Insbesondere die Durchblutung von Organen ist von selbstregulierenden Prozessen abhängig.[2] Weitere Beispiele dafür sind:
- Anstieg von Blutdruck und Herzfrequenz beim Wechsel von liegender in stehende Position.
- Anstieg der Atemfrequenz bei körperlicher Anstrengung.
- Ausschüttung von Adrenalin bei Unterzuckerung, mit der Folge von Zittern und Schwitzen, um die Glucosekonzentration aufrechtzuerhalten und einen drohenden hypoglykämischen Schock zu verhindern.
- Regulierung der Expression eines Gens durch sein eigenes Produkt.[1]
