Bathynectes ist eine Gattung von Krabben innerhalb der Familie der Polybiidae mit fünf Arten.[1] Sie besiedeln die Gezeitenzone, den Schelf und den Kontinentalhang in Tiefen zwischen 0 und 1455 m im gemäßigten Nord- und im tropischen Atlantik sowie der gemäßigten Klimazone im Süden Afrikas.[2]

Merkmale

Der Carapax ist bis zu 69 mm lang und queroval bis sechseckig. Die Stirn verläuft nahezu gerade und ist zu vier Zähnen eingeschnitten. Der Merus der Scherenbeine ist am Ober- und Vorderrand mit einem Dorn bewehrt. Die Propodi der ersten drei Schreitbeinpaare sind entlang des gesamten Unterrands mit zwei Längskielen versehen. Das letzte Schreitbein ist am Ende zugespitzt. Das Telson ist bei Männchen breiter als der halbe sechste Somit des Pleons.[2]
