Ceroid

Ceroide sind eine Gruppe Lipofuszin ähnlicher Lipopigmente, die sich bei bestimmten Krankheiten in den Lysosomen der Zellen ablagern, vor allem bei der neuronalen Ceroid-Lipofuszinose (NCL) und der Niemann-Pick-Krankheit. Ceroid wurde erstmals 1941 in der Leber von Ratten bei einer fütterungsbedingten Leberzirrhose nachgewiesen.[1]

Ceroid zeigt eine gelbe Autofluoreszenz bei Ultraviolettstrahlung oder blauem Licht, ab einer Wellenlänge von 360 nm mit einer maximalen Emission bei 539 nm. Es färbt sich in der PAS-Reaktion und Sudan-Färbung positiv für Kohlenhydrate und Fette. Es hat einen Proteinanteil von 60 %, dessen Hauptkomponente bei der NCL der Erwachsenen ein Molekulargewicht von 3500 Dalton hat und die Untereinheit C der mitochondrialen ATP-Synthase ist. Bei der infantilen NCL sind die Hauptkomponenten die Sphingolipid activating proteins (Saposin) A und D. Neben der Proteinkomponente sind Dolicholpyrophosphat haltige Oligosaccharide, Phospholipide und neutrale Lipide und Eisen Bestandteile von Ceroiden.[1]

Von Lipofuzin lässt sich Ceroid durch Lektin-Histochemie unterscheiden. Lipofuzin enthält zudem auch andere Metalle und ist in der Histochemie Agglutinin-negativ.[1]
