Cloud Repatriation ist die Rückverlagerung von zuvor in Public Cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP etc.) Umgebungen betriebener Anwendungen, Datenbanken und deren Inhalt sowie Workloads in nahe gelegene Rechenzentren. Diese Rechenzentren können sich räumlich nahe ("on premesis"), z. B. auf dem firmeneigenen Gelände oder im gleichen Land, der gleichen Jurisdiktion etc. befinden.[1]

Die Ziele der Cloud Repatriation sind:

  • Rückgewinnung der Kontrolle über die (firmen-)eigenen Daten
  • Kostenreduktion (compute, storage, networking)
  • geringere Latenz in der Datenübertragung

Cloud Repatriation ist ein essentieller Baustein der Digitalen Souveränität von Firmen, öffentlicher Verwaltung und privater IT.
