Crayon Phase (Eigenschreibweise: CRAYON PHASE) ist eine deutsche Progressive-Rock-Band aus Nordrhein-Westfalen. Die Band wurde 2008 gegründet und verbindet Elemente des Neo&Progressive Rock, New-Art-Rock und Progressive Metal. Das zweite und dritte Studioalbum wurden in nationalen und internationalen Rezensionen positiv besprochen.[1][2][3] Dazu wurde die Band und ihre Alben mehrfach in gesonderten Artikeln[4][5][6][7] in Printmagazinen wie z. B. Eclipsed, Empire Music oder IO Pages vorgestellt.

Geschichte

Crayon Phase wurde 2008 von Frank Wendel gegründet. Zur ursprünglichen Besetzung gehörten neben Frank Wendel (Gesang, Keyboard), Wolfgang Bähr (Gitarre, Bass), Arne Gröschel (Schlagzeug) und Frank Brommer (Keyboard). Im Jahr 2012 trat Peter Damm als Bassist der Band bei. Im Jahr 2013 veröffentlichte die Band ihr Debütalbum Within My Recollection. Nach dessen Veröffentlichung verließ Frank Brommer 2015 die Band. Frank Wendel konzentrierte sich anschließend ausschließlich auf die Keyboards.

Mit dem zweiten Studioalbum Two Hundred Pages veröffentlichte die Band ihr erstes Konzeptalbum. Seitdem steht die Band beim deutschen Progressive-Rock-Label Progressive Promotion Records unter Vertrag. Für die Studioaufnahmen übernahm Raphael Gazal den Leadgesang, ohne dauerhaft Mitglied der Band zu werden. Geplante Live-Auftritte nach der Veröffentlichung des Albums konnten infolge der COVID-19-Pandemie nicht umgesetzt werden.

Mitte 2025 schloss Crayon Phase die Aufnahmen zum dritten Studioalbum Synthetic Mind ab. Wie bereits beim zweiten Studioalbum übernahm Raphael Gazal den Leadgesang für die Studioaufnahmen. Das Album erschien am 30. September 2025 digital über Progressive Promotion Records. Die CD-Ausgabe folgte kurze Zeit später. Im Jahr 2026 trat Gerrit Eilert als Sänger der Band bei.
