Cryptosoma ist eine Gattung der Krabben mit vier Arten.[1] Sie kommen von der Gezeitenzone (subtidal) bis zum Kontinentalhang in Tiefen zwischen 3 und 230 m im gemäßigten Nord- und tropischen Westatlantik sowie im östlichen Indopazifik vor.[2]

Merkmale

Der Carapax von Cryptosoma wird bis zu 39 mm lang. Er ist nahezu rund und mit kleinen Zähnen im seitlichen Winkel besetzt. Die Stirn ist so breit wie die Augenhöhle, mit zwei Dornen besetzt und leicht hervorstehend. Der Carpus der Scherenbeine hat einen glatten Oberrand, der vordere Winkel ist auf der Innenseite ebenfalls glatt. Der Oberrand der Hand hat einen zweiten und dritten Zahn und ist innenseitig glatt, der Finger (Dactylus) hat ein gerändeltes Band auf der Innenseite mit mehr als 25 Leisten.[2]
