Direct Yellow 4 ist eine chemische Verbindung aus der Gruppe der Azo- und Stilbenfarbstoffen.

Gewinnung und Darstellung

Direct Yellow 4 kann durch zweimalige Kupplung von tetrazotierter 4,4′-Diaminostilben-2,2′-disulfonsäure an Phenol gewonnen werden.[3][4]

Eigenschaften

Direct Yellow 4 ist ein gelber bis oranger Farbstoff, der löslich in Wasser ist. Der Farbstoff ändert seine Farbe abhängig vom pH-Wert, wobei er bei einem pH-Wert von 6,4 gelb aussieht und bei 8,0 rot-orange.[2] Durch bestimmte Enzyme zersetzt sich die Verbindung unter Entfärbung.[5] In konzentrierter Schwefelsäure färbt sie sich rot-violett.[4]

Verwendung

Direct Yellow 4 wird als Farbstoff für Tinten, photochrome Materialien, Stoffe, Papier, Kosmetika und weiteres verwendet.[2] Die Verbindung wurde 1886 durch F. Bender und Gustav Schultz entdeckt.[4]
