El Bayadh (arabisch البيض, DMG al-Bayaḍ, tamazight ⵍⴱⴰⵢⴻⴹ Lbayeḍ, während der französischen Kolonialzeit Géryville) ist eine Stadt in Algerien. Sie hatte bei der letzten Volkszählung im Jahr 2008 eine Bevölkerung von 85.577 Einwohnern. Sie ist Hauptstadt der gleichnamigen Provinz (Wilaya) El Bayadh.

Geografie

El Bayadh liegt im nordwestlichen Landesinneren des nordafrikanischen Staates im Bereich des Saharaatlas auf einer Hochebene.

Geschichte

Um 1869 brach der französische General Louis-Joseph de Colomb von dem Ort auf, um mit seinen Truppen einen Aufstand in der Gegend von Bechar niederzuschlagen.[1]

Transport

El Bayadh ist über Nationalstraßen mit der Küstenregion und dem Inneren des Landes verbunden. Vom Flughafen El Bayadh, der nordöstlich der Stadt liegt, gibt es Flugverbindungen nach Algiers und Oran.
