Elizabeth Florence Colson (* 15. Juni 1917 in Hewitt, Minnesota; † 3. August 2016 in Monze, Sambia) war eine US-amerikanische Ethnologin und Hochschullehrerin.^[1]

Elizabeth Colson studierte Ethnologie, zunächst an der University of Minnesota, wo sie 1938 den Bachelorgrad erwarb. Anschließend setzte sie ihr Studium am Radcliffe College fort. Dort erwarb sie 1941 den Magistergrad und promovierte 1945 zum Ph.D. Zunächst arbeitete sie am Rhodes-Livingstone-Institute in Nord-Rhodesien; von 1948 bis 1951 war sie Direktorin dieses Forschungsinstituts. Als Hochschullehrerin wirkte sie an der University of Manchester (1951 bis 1953), dem Goucher College (1954/55), der Boston University (1955 bis 1959), der Brandeis University (1959 bis 1963) und der Northwestern University (1963/64). Von 1964 bis zu ihrer Emeritierung im Jahre 1987 lehrte sie als Professorin an der University of California, Berkeley. 1977 wurde sie Mitglied der National Academy of Sciences, 1978 Mitglied der American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Eine Ehrenmitgliedschaft erhielt sie am Royal Anthropological Institute of Great Britain. Ehrendoktorwürden wurden ihr von der Brown University und der University of Rochester verliehen.

Hauptschwerpunkt ihrer Forschungsarbeit war vor allem das Stammesleben der Tonga im früheren Nordrhodesien (heute: Sambia). Außerdem beschäftigte sie sich mit mehreren Indianerstämmen in Nordamerika.
