Firies, offiziell Fieries, (irisch Na Foidhrí) ist ein Dorf in der Grafschaft Kerry im Südwesten der Provinz Munster in der Republik Irland. 2022 hatte Firies 579 Einwohner.[1]

Lage

Firies liegt etwa zwölf Kilometer nordnordwestlich von Killarney und etwa zwölf Kilometer südsüdöstlich von Tralee. Durch den Ort führt die R561 von Farranfore nach Castlemaine und weiter nach Dingle. Die Eisenbahnlinie wurde aufgelöst.

Geschichte

Bereits frühgeschichtliche Relikte wie eine Ringfestung und heilige Quellen deuten auf eine frühe Besiedlung hin. Südlich des Ortes finden sich Reste eines Tower Houses, das im 13. Jahrhundert für die O’Connors errichtet wurde.

Die Gertrudenkirche wurde um 1860 errichtet.
