Grapsus ist eine Gattung der Quadratkrabben mit acht rezenten Arten.[1] Sie besiedeln die Gezeitenzone felsiger Küsten im tropischen Atlantik, im Indopazifik und im tropischen Ostpazifik.[2]

Merkmale

Der Carapax ist bis 56 mm lang und rundlich bis abgerundet rechteckig. Die Stirn ist schmaler als die halbe Carapaxbreite. Hinter dem Exorbitalzahn (am äußeren Augenhöhlenwinkel) tritt am vorderen Seitenrand ein weiterer Zahn auf. Der Merus des dritten Maxillipeden ist länger als breit.[2]

Systematik

Zur Gattung gehören folgende rezente Arten:[1]

Eine weitere Art – Grapsus pelagicus Roux, 1828 – gilt als unsicher (Taxon inquirendum).[1]

Synonyme sind Grapse Lamarck, 1801 und Grapsus (Grapsus) Lamarck, 1801.[1]
