Hellripper ist eine Black- und Speed-Metal-Band aus Schottland. Es handelt sich um das Soloprojekt des Musikers James McBain.

Bandgeschichte

Hellripper wurde Ende 2014 von James McBain in den schottischen Highlands gegründet. Die Debüt-EP The Manifestation of Evil erschien Anfang 2015 als Eigenproduktion. Es folgten mehrere Split-Veröffentlichungen. 2017 erschien das Debütalbum Coagulating Darkness über das Independent-Label Barbarian Wrath.[1]

2018 und 2019 erschienen weitere Split-EPs. Am 9. Oktober 2020 erschien das zweite Album The Affair of the Poisons über Peaceville Records, ein Konzeptalbum über die Giftaffäre, eine Mordserie während der Regierungszeit von Ludwig XIV.[2]

2023 erschien Warlocks Grim & Withered Hags, ein Album über dunkle schottische Sagen und Mythen.[3] 2026 folgte Coronach. Das Album erschien über Century Media und erreichte Platz 71 der österreichischen Charts.

Live-Aktivitäten

Obwohl es sich bei Hellripper um ein Soloprojekt handelt, geht James McBain mit unterschiedlichen Livemitgliedern regelmäßig auf Europatour und spielt auf Festivals wie den Metaldays und dem Roadburn Festival.[4][5]

Stil

Hellrippers Musik ist von Thrash-, Black- und Speed-Metal-Bands der ersten Generation wie Venom, Megadeth, Metallica, Running Wild und Sabbat beeinflusst. Des Weiteren waren Darkthrone und punkorientierte Metalbands wie Toxic Holocaust, Motörhead und Anti Cimex Einflüsse.[6][7][8] Die Texte setzen sich mit Okkultismus, Hexerei und Satanismus auseinander.
