Die Homoloida sind eine Gruppe (auch als Section bezeichnet) der Krabben. Sie enthält mit den Homoloidea nur eine Überfamilie nach der klassischen Überfamilien-Familien-Systematik. Sie sind typische Tiefsee-Bewohner, welche den Schelf und den Kontinentalhang besiedeln.[1]

Merkmale

Die Hauptmerkmale der Homoloida sind die fußförmigen dritten Maxillipeden und die langen und schlanken Schreitbeine. Das letzte Schreitbeinpaar ist kürzer als die anderen drei und endet in einem Greifwerkzeug, das von Dactylus und Propodus gebildet wird und mit denen sie Objekte tragen. Dies dient der Verteidigung und soll Fressfeinde abschrecken. Dieses Verhalten zeigen jedoch nicht alle Homoloida. Latreilla-Arten haben ein federartiges letztes Schreitbein, welches zum Festhalten an Weichkorallen dient.[1]
