IC 478 ist eine Spiralgalaxie mit aktivem Galaxienkern vom Hubble-Typ Sb im Sternbild Zwillinge auf der Ekliptik. Sie ist schätzungsweise 499 Millionen Lichtjahre von der Milchstraße entfernt und hat einen Durchmesser von etwa 90.000 Lichtjahren. Im selben Himmelsareal befinden sich u. a. die Galaxien IC 479 und IC 480.

Das Objekt wurde am 2. März 1892 vom französischen Astronomen Stéphane Javelle entdeckt.[5]
