Der aus St. Louis stammende Julius Schaefer fuhr für den dortigen South Side Cycling Club. 1904 nahm er an den Olympischen Spielen teil und trat in zwei Disziplinen des Bahnradsports an. Über 5 Meilen belegte er den undankbaren vierten Platz, das Rennen über 25 Meilen konnte er nicht beenden.
