Der Kirsch-Operator ist ein nichtlinearer Kantendetektor, der als Kantenstärke eines Bildpunktes die am stärksten ausgeprägte Gradientenrichtung liefert. Es werden dabei nur acht diskrete Richtungen, ausgehend von 0°, in 45°-Schritten betrachtet.
