Marbrakeys ist ein Musikalbum von Almut Kühne, Gebhard Ullmann und Achim Kaufmann. Die am 2. Juli 2013 in den RBB Studios in Berlin entstandenen Aufnahmen erschienen im Februar 2016 auf Leo Records.

Hintergrund

Der Holzbläser Gebhard Ullmann hat 2016 zwei Alben gleichzeitig herausgebracht, zum einen das Duoalbum Geode, das Improvisationen, eingespielt von Ullmann am Tenorsaxophon und an der Bassklarinette sowie von Achim Kaufmann am Klavier, zum anderen das Trioalbum Marbrakeys, bei dem dieses Duo um die Vokalistin Almut Kühne ergänzt wurde und zehn gemeinsam komponierte Stücke aufgenommen wurden.[1] Dies waren die ersten gemeinsamen Album von Achim Kaufmann und Gebhard Ullmann.

Rezeption

Wie auch in Geode würden Ullmann und Kaufmann in Marbrakeys gekonnt die Grenzen zwischen Jazz und Klassik verwischen, und Ullmann lote die Klanggrenzen seiner Instrumente bis zum Äußersten aus, meint John Garratt in Pop Matters. Almut Kühne hingegen scheine auf Marbrakeys kaum von Ullmann oder Kaufmann abhängig zu sein. Stattdessen scheine sie sich damit zufriedenzugeben, die Luft mit so vielen theatralischen Ablenkungsmanövern zu durchdringen, wie sie wolle, egal was die anderen beiden Musiker gerade tun würden. Das könne zu einem aufwühlenden Hörerlebnis führen.[1]
