Maria Byrne

Maria Byrne (* 27. November 1967 in Limerick) ist eine irische Politikerin der Fine Gael. Sie war von 2016 bis 2020 und seit 2021 Mitglied des Seanad Éireann.

Maria Byrne (* 27. November 1967 in Limerick) ist eine irische Politikerin der Fine Gael. Sie war von 2016 bis 2020 und seit 2021 Mitglied des Seanad Éireann.

Leben

Byrne war ab 1999 Mitglied des Limerick City and County Council. Von 2009 bis 2016 war sie Mitglied im Europäischen Ausschuss der Regionen. Von 2010 bis 2011 war sie Mayor of Limerick (Bürgermeisterin). Sie schied aus dem Council 2016 aus, als sie bei den Wahlen über die Landwirtschaftsliste in den Seanad Éireann gewählt wurde. Nachdem sie bei den Wahlen zum Dáil Éireann 2020 erfolglos im Wahlkreis Limerick City kandidierte, verlor sie 2020 auch ihren Sitz bei den Wahlen zum Seanad Éireann. Sie konnte aber bei einer Nachwahl im April 2021 für den zum Minister berufenen Michael William D’Arcy den Sitz zurückgewinnen. Bei den Wahlen zum Dáil Éireann 2024 scheiterte sie erneut, wurde jedoch über die Landwirtschaftsliste 2025 erneut in den Seanad gewählt.[1] Dort ist sie seit Februar 2025 Leas-Chathaoirleach (stellvertretende Vorsitzende des Seanad Éireann).
