Metacarcinus ist eine Krabbengattung aus der Familie der Taschenkrebse (Cancridae) mit fünf rezenten Arten.[1] Sie kommen von der Gezeitenzone bis zum Kontinentalhang in Tiefen zwischen 0 und 327 m im gemäßigten Nordpazifik, im tropischen Ostpazifik, im gemäßigten Südamerika und gemäßigten Australasien vor.[2]

Merkmale

Metacarcinus wird bis zu 85 mm lang. Der Carapax ist glatt, die Regionen sind undeutlich abgegrenzt. Der vordere Seitenrand trägt deutliche Zähne mit stumpfem oder spitzen Ende, manchmal sind sie dornenartig. Sie sind durch kurze Spalten separiert. Der hintere Seitenrand ist unbewaffnet. Die Scheren (Chelae) werden körperfern breiter, die Finger sind doppelt so lang wie ihre Basis breit. Die Schneidekanten tragen sechs bis zehn Zähne.[2]
