Microcassiope ist eine Gattung der Nanocassiopidae mit fünf Arten.[1] Sie besiedeln die Gezeitenzone, den Schelf und den Kontinentalhang in Tiefen zwischen 0 und 220 m im tropischen Atlantik, in der gemäßigten Klimazone des Nordpazifiks und im tropischen Ostpazifik.[2]

Merkmale

Der Carapax ist bis zu 6,4 mm lang. Die Regionen sind nur im vorderen Teil abgrenzbar. Die Körner auf der Rückenseite sind in zahlreichen Quer- und Schrägreihen angeordnet, was die Gattung von Nanocassiope unterscheidet. Der vordere Seitenrand ist mit drei Zähnen bewehrt, von denen der letzte am kleinsten ist. Der Merus des letzten Schreitbeins ist bis zu dreimal länger als breit.[2]
