Mutatochrom ist ein Xanthophyll aus dem Pilz Boletus luridus,[2] Karotten, unreifen Kartoffeln, Maisblättern und der Alge Fucus spiralis.[3][4]

Mutatochrom kommt vermehrt in den Fruchtkörpern der Pilze vor.[2]
