NGC 1198 = IC 282 ist eine elliptische Galaxie vom Hubble-Typ E/S0 im Sternbild Perseus am Nordsternhimmel. Sie ist schätzungsweise 76 Millionen Lichtjahre von der Milchstraße entfernt und hat einen Durchmesser von etwa 55.000 Lichtjahren. Vom Sonnensystem aus entfernt sich die Galaxie mit einer errechneten Radialgeschwindigkeit von näherungsweise 1600 Kilometern pro Sekunde.

Das Objekt wurde am 6. Dezember 1879 vom französischen Astronomen Édouard Stephan entdeckt.[5]
