NGC 488 ist eine Spiralgalaxie vom Hubble-Typ Sb im Sternbild Fische auf der Ekliptik. Sie ist schätzungsweise 105 Millionen Lichtjahre von der Milchstraße entfernt und hat einen Durchmesser von etwa 150.000 Lichtjahren. Sie ist das hellste Mitglied der NGC 488-Gruppe (LGG 21).

Die Supernovae SN 1976G und SN 2010eb (Typ-Ia) wurden hier beobachtet.[5]

Das Objekt wurde am 13. Dezember 1784 von dem deutsch-britischen Astronomen William Herschel entdeckt.[6]
