NGC 5074 ist eine 14,0 mag helle Spiralgalaxie mit ausgeprägten Emissionslinien vom Hubble-Typ Sb im Sternbild Jagdhunde am Nordsternhimmel. Sie ist schätzungsweise 252 Millionen Lichtjahre von der Milchstraße entfernt und hat einen Durchmesser von etwa 50.000 Lichtjahren.
Im selben Himmelsareal befinden sich u. a. die Galaxien NGC 5057, NGC 5065, IC 4225, IC 4226.

Das Objekt wurde am 13. März 1785 vom deutsch-britischen Astronomen Wilhelm Herschel[3] mit einem 18,7-Zoll-Spiegelteleskop entdeckt, der sie dabei mit „eF, vS“[4] beschrieb.
