NGC 984 ist eine linsenförmige Galaxie vom Hubble-Typ S0/a mit aktivem Galaxienkern im Sternbild Widder an der Ekliptik. Sie ist schätzungsweise 198 Millionen Lichtjahre von der Milchstraße entfernt und hat einen Durchmesser von etwa 180.000 Lichtjahren. Vom Sonnensystem aus entfernt sich das Objekt mit einer errechneten Radialgeschwindigkeit von näherungsweise 4400 Kilometern pro Sekunde.

Das Objekt wurde am 13. Dezember 1871 von dem Astronomen Édouard Stephan entdeckt.[4]
