Nicholas Jeremy Thomas (* 21. April 1960 in Sydney) ist ein australisch-britischer Anthropologe und Hochschullehrer.^[1]

Nicholas Thomas studierte Ethnologie an der Australian National University und legte dort 1982 die Bachelorprüfung ab. 1984 unternahm er ethnologische Feldforschungen auf den Marquesas im Pazifik und promovierte 1986 an der ANU zum Ph.D. Weitere Feldforschungen führte er 1988 auf den Fidschi-Inseln und von 1993 bis 1999 in Neuseeland durch. Als Hochschullehrer war er von 1986 bis 1989 an der University of Cambridge tätig, anschließend an der Australian National University. Von 1999 bis 2006 war er Professor am Goldsmith’s College der University of London. Seit 2006 ist er als Professor für Historische Ethnologie an der University of Cambridge tätig und zugleich Direktor des dortigen Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. Im Jahre 2005 wurde er Mitglied der British Academy.^[2] Außerdem ist er seit 1997 Mitglied der Australian Academy of the Humanities.

In seinen zahlreichen Veröffentlichungen beschäftigt sich Nicholas Thomas vor allem mit den Inseln im Pazifik bzw. Ozeanien, den Entdeckungsreisen von James Cook sowie über ethnographische Museen allgemein.
