2004 wurde sie an der New York University zum PhD promoviert. Es folgte von 2004 bis 2006 ein Postdoc-Aufenthalt am Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) bei James DiCarlo. 2009 wechselte sie an die University of Pennsylvania.

Eines ihrer Forschungsgebiete ist die Visuelle Wahrnehmung. In den letzten Jahren verlagerte sie ihr Forschungsgebiet auf die Neurowissenschaft von Stimmungen. Hier untersucht sie unter anderem die Gehirnregion Insula.
