Omalacantha ist eine Gattung der Krabben aus der Familie Mithracidae mit drei Arten.[1] Sie besiedeln die tiefere Gezeitenzone (subtidal) und den Schelf in Tiefen zwischen 1 und 70 m in der gemäßigten Klimazone des Nordatlantiks und im tropischen Westatlantik.[2]

Merkmale

Der Carapax ist bis zu 14 mm lang, birnenförmig und länger als breit. Die Kiemenregion ist leicht aufgetrieben und höckerig. Parallel zum Hinterrand liegt eine Höckerreihe. Der vordere Seitenrand ist mit einem hinten-seitlichen Zahn bewehrt. Das Rostrum (mittiger Stirnfortsatz) besteht aus zwei verlängerten Dornen. Das basale Antennenglied trägt drei Dornen, von denen der vorn-seitliche von oben sichtbar ist. Der Innenrand des Merus des dritten Maxillipeden ist gerade und mit einer dreieckigen Kerbe zur Aufnahme der Palpe versehen. Die Scherenbeine sind bei adulten Männchen kürzer als der Carapax.[2]
