Probonas (griechisch Προμπονάς) ist ein Stadtviertel der griechischen Hauptstadt Athen. Der Name des Stadtviertels geht auf Dimitrios Probonas (1874–1949) zurück, der Abgeordneter und Arzt war und, der der Stadt ein Grundstück von etwa 40 Stremmata vermachte.[1]

Während der byzantinischen Zeit diente das Gebiet als Begräbnisstätte. Die erste dauerhafte Besiedlung erfolgte um 1870.

Lage

Probonas liegt im Norden Athens und wird im Osten durch den Fluss Podoniftis, im Westen durch die Gleisanlagen der Athener Metro, im Norden durch den gleichnamigen Probonas-Hain und im Süden durch die Straße Chalkidos begrenzt. Das Viertel grenzt u. a. an die Bezirke Rizoupoli, Patisia, Agios Eleftherios und Nea Filadelfia an.

Verkehr

Das Stadtviertel ist über die Station Ano Patissia der Linie 1 an das Streckennetz der Athener Metro angeschlossen.
