Roger Berkowitz (* 1968)[1] ist ein US-amerikanischer Politikwissenschaftler. Er ist akademischer Direktor des „Hannah Arendt Center for Politics and Humanities“ am Bard College und da auch Professor für Politik, Philosophie und Menschenrechte. Im Dezember 2019 erhielt Berkowitz zusammen mit Jerome Kohn den von der Hansestadt Bremen und der Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung gemeinsam vergebenen Hannah-Arendt-Preis für politisches Denken.

Er ist Experte für das politische Denken von Hannah Arendt. 2006 gründete er das „Hannah Arendt Center for Politics and Humanities“ am Bard College.

Leben

Berkowitz erlangte 1990 einen B.A. in Politikwissenschaft vom Amherst College, 1997 einen Juris Doctor von der University of California, Berkeley, School of Law (ehemals Boalt Hall) und 2001 einen Ph.D. in Rechtsprechung und Sozialpolitik von der University of California, Berkeley.[2][3]

Seit 2012 moderiert er den Podcast Reading Hannah Arendt, eine wöchentliche virtuelle Lesegruppe mit Vorlesungen über Arendts Bücher mit anschließenden Diskussionen.[4]
