Bestimmt sind die Wasserfahrzeuge für die maritime Forschung (Typ Explorer) und die maritime Überwachung im Verteidigungssektor (Typ Voyager)[1]. Betrieben werden die Drohnen mit Wind- und Sonnenenergie. Eingesetzt werden die Fahrzeuge durch die NOAA, um Daten aus entfernten polaren und tropischen Regionen zu sammeln, die zum besseren Verständnis des Ozeans im Zusammenhang mit Klima, Fischerei und Meeressäuger verhelfen sollen.
