Der Legende zufolge war Simitrius ein Priester, der unter Kaiser Antoninus Pius gemeinsam mit 22 Gefährten gefangen genommen und ohne Prozess hingerichtet worden sei, als sie sich zum Gebet im Titulus der Hl. Praxedis versammeln wollten.
