Das Etappenrennen, das für gewöhnlich im Mai oder Juni stattfindet und meistens fünf Etappen umfasst, wurde 1993, zwei Jahre nach der Unabhängigkeit Sloweniens von Jugoslawien, zum ersten Mal ausgetragen. Seit Einführung der UCI Europe Tour in der Saison 2005 ist das Rennen Teil dieser Rennserie und in die Kategorie 2.1 eingestuft. Rekordsieger sind Mitja Mahorič, Tomaž Nose, Diego Ulissi, Primož Roglič und Tadej Pogačar, die das Rennen jeweils zweimal für sich entscheiden konnten.
