Tintane (arabisch الطينطان, DMG Ṭīnṭān) ist eine Gemeinde in der Verwaltungsregion Hodh El Gharbi von Mauretanien und Hauptstadt des Départements Tintane. Sie ist eine der größten Städte in Mauretanien.

Geographie

Der Hauptort der Gemeinde Tintane liegt 644 Kilometer südöstlich von Nouakchott auf etwa 168 m Meereshöhe im südlichen Zentrum des Beckens El Hodh, das einen großen Teil des Südostens von Mauretanien einnimmt.[1]

Bevölkerung

Für die Bevölkerung der Stadt lagen bis zum Jahr 2000 keine Angaben vor, sie stieg jedoch kontinuierlich an. Die Bevölkerungszahl der Gemeinde hat in den Jahren 2000 bis 2023 von 9.938 auf 35.995 Einwohner zugenommen.[2] Der Hauptort selbst hat 32.319 Einwohner (2023). Daneben gibt es noch drei andere bewohnte Orte.[3]

Verkehr

Tintane liegt an der Nationalstraße N3, der wichtigsten West-Ost-Straßenverbindung Mauretaniens.
