Video Collection International

Video Collection International (VCI) war ein in Großbritannien ansässiges Heimvideounternehmen, das 1984 als The Video Collection gegründet wurde.

Geschichte

Ursprünglich Teil der Prestwich Group mit Sitz in New Southgate, London, wurde das Unternehmen von Steve Ayres als CEO und Paddy Toomey (ehemals Woolworths) als Geschäftsführer übernommen.[1] Nach der Unabhängigkeit im Jahr 1985 entwickelte sich The Video Collection zum größten Heimvideo-Vertrieb Großbritanniens. Das Unternehmen besaß außerdem zwei europäische Niederlassungen: Vídeo Colección, SA in Spanien und Vidéo Collection France in Frankreich sowie Strand VCI Entertainment in Nordamerika. Letztere wurde 1992 in Strand Home Video umbenannt und 1994 an The Handleman Company verkauft. The Video Collection kooperierte häufig mit den britischen Fernsehsendern ITV und Channel 4 und vertrieb viele ihrer Titel aus ihren Franchises, wie beispielsweise Thomas, die kleine Lokomotive. The Video Collection betrieb auch das Budget-Label Cinema Club. Aufgrund finanzieller Schwierigkeiten wurde es 1995 in VCI umbenannt. 1999 wurde das Unternehmen an die Kingfisher-Gruppe verkauft.[2] Kingfisher spaltete das Unternehmen im Juli 2001 in die Woolworths Group auf. Im Jahr 2004 fusionierte es mit 2 Entertain und BBC Video, weshalb VCI im Jahr 2005 geschlossen wurde.[3][4]
