The 1875 California gubernatorial election was held on September 1, 1875, to elect the governor of California .
Campaign
William Irwin , who became acting lieutenant governor in 1875 when Romualdo Pacheco succeeded to the governorship, secured the Democratic nomination later that year and became the next elected governor of California.[ 1]
