Parapithecus es un género extinto de primate que vivía en Egipto entre el final de la época del Eoceno y el Oligoceno. Se considera que se trata de un antropoide basal y que está cercanamente relacionado con el género Apidium. Vivió entre hace 40 a 33 millones de años.[1]​

Contiene dos especies conocidas:

  • †Parapithecus fraasi (Schlosser, 1910)
  • †Parapithecus grangeri (Simons, 1974)

Descripción

Parapithecus tenía una dentadura inusual, la cual no contenía incisivos adultos inferiores.[2]​ La dentadura superior probablemente tenía cuatro incisivos.[3]​ Esto significa que la fórmula dental puede ser expresada como: incisivos: 2/0; caninos: 1/1; premolares: 3/3; molares: 3/3.
