Sebastes es un género de peces de la familia Sebastidae, del orden Scorpaeniformes. Este género marino fue descrito científicamente por Georges Cuvier en 1829.
Los restos fósiles se remontan al Mioceno de California y Japón.
Varias especies se valoran por su uso deportivo y comercial. Algunas han sido pescadas en exceso y hoy se controla su pesca en algunos lugares.[2]
