Taxonomía
El género fue descrito por Barneby & J.W.Grimes y publicado en Memoirs of the New York Botanical Garden 74(1): 160. 1996.[2] La especie tipo es: Sphinga platyloba (DC.) Barneby & J.W.Grimes
