Ala-Urpala

Ala-Urpalan kartano

Ala-Urpala (ven. Чистополье, Tšistopolje) on yksi Virolahden kylistä, jotka ovat toisen maailmansodan jälkeen jääneet Venäjän puolelle nykyistä itärajaa. Se oli itäisin kylä Virolahden pitäjässä, sijaiten Säkkijärven rajalla ja Suomenlahden rannalla. Kylän halki virtasi ja sen kohdalla mereen laskeva Urpalanjoki.

Ala-Urpalassa 1600-luvulta alkaen sijainnut kartano, Ala-Urpalan hovi, käsitti koko kylän. Se oli pitkän aikaa esimerkiksi Mellin, Sesemann ja Alfthan -sukujen omistuksessa. Hovin uuden, noin vuonna 1835 valmistuneen päärakennuksen piirsi Carl Ludvig Engel. Silloisen kartanon osti vuonna 1916 maanviljelijä Manu Seppälä. Hän myi Kartanoon vielä kuuluvia torppia itsenäisiksi tiloiksi. Vuonna 1921 Virolahden kunta osti kartanon päärakennuksen kansakouluksi.
