Dactylonax est un genre de mammifères marsupiaux, de la famille des Petauridae. Ses membres sont appelés phalangers à longs doigts.
Description
Les espèces de ce genre se distinguent par des adaptations liées à la recherche de larves d'insectes dans le bois :
- un crâne court et extrêmement large ;
- un quatrième doigt de la main (manus) exceptionnellement allongé ;
- une queue relativement courte, signe d'habitudes plus terrestres que les espèces du genre Dactylopsila[1].
Liste des espèces
Selon la révision systématique de 2026, le genre comprend trois espèces :
- Dactylonax ernstmayri (Stein, 1932) – présent sur la Cordillère centrale et la péninsule de Huon ;
- Dactylonax kambuayai (Aplin, 1999) – espèce Lazarus redécouverte vivante en 2026 sur la péninsule de Vogelkop ;
- Dactylonax palpator (Milne-Edwards, 1888) – restreint aux monts Arfak.
