Lucida Grandeは、チャールズ・ビゲロウとクリス・ホームズによってデザインされたLucidaファミリーに属するヒューマニストサンセリフ書体。Mac OS X／OS Xのシステムフォント（ユーザインタフェースフォント）として採用されたことと、SafariなどWindows向けAppleソフトウェアへの搭載によってよく知られている。OS X Yosemite（10.10）でHelvetica Neueに変更されるまで、Mac OS X／OS Xのシステムフォントであった[1]。なおOS X El Capitan（10.11）で、システムフォントが再び変更され、San Franciscoが採用され、現在に至る[2]。
Lucida Grandeは、Lucida SansとLucida Sans Unicodeと非常によく似ており、Lucida Sans Unicodeと同様、Unicodeバージョン2.0で収録されたよく使われる文字をサポートする。
Bigelow & Holmesから直接提供されるLucida Grandeフォントは、汎ヨーロッパWGL文字セットをサポートする。
ファミリー展開
Bigelow & Holmesは、Lucida Grandeの三つのウェイト（Normal、Bold、Black）、三つのスタイル（Roman、Italic、Oblique）を開発した。Appleは、Mac OS XでRegular（Normal Roman）とBold（Bold Roman）を採用した。
2014年6月、Bigelow & Holmesは、四つ目のウェイトとしてLight（Roman、Italic、Obliqueの3スタイル）を追加した。このほか新たにナローバージョン「Lucida Grande Narrow」（無印と同じ12のウェイト／スタイル）、等幅バージョン「Lucida Grande Mono」と等幅ナローバージョン「Lucida Grande Mono Narrow」（いずれもRegular、Bold、Italic、Bold Italic、Oblique、Bold Obliqueの六つのウェイト／スタイル）も発売した[3]。

Lucida Sans / Lucida SansUnicodeとの類似性
Lucida Grande（およびLucida Grande Bold）のほとんどすべてのグリフは、Lucida Sans（およびLucida Sans Demibold）およびLucida Sans Unicodeの対応するグリフと同じように見えるが、次のような例外がある。
これらの文字のわずかな違いは、ディスプレイやユーザインタフェース（特にグラフィカルおよびウェブベース）の使用において、小さいフォントサイズでより明確になる。
用途
OS X Yosemiteより前のmacOSリリースとは別に、多くのウェブサイトやブログFacebook、多くのphpBBフォーラムなど、本文テキストのデフォルトの書体としてLucida Grandeを使用している。この書体は通常、WindowsやLinuxなどの他のほとんどのオペレーティングシステムには存在しないためこれらのサイトのCSSスタイルシートには、Tahoma, Verdana, Trebuchet MS, Segoe UI, Calibri, DejaVu Sans, Arial, Lucida Sans Unicodeといったフォントが含まれていることが多い。Lucida Grandeがデフォルトのシステムフォントとして使用されなくなったOS X Yosemiteの導入後、数人の開発者がLucida Grandeをデフォルトのシステムフォントとして戻すためのユーティリティを作成した[6]。
Lucida Grande / Sansは主にスクリーンフォントとしてデザインされているが、プロフェッショナル級のDTPにおけるMacプラットフォーム（と付属書体）の普及により、印刷物にも頻繁に出現する。
