SAIL（せいる）またはSAIL/ESA（せいるいーえすえー）は日本アイ・ビー・エムが1985年に発表した金融機関向けパッケージ。

名称

SAILの正式名称は「IMSオンライン適用業務 開発/運用支援プログラム」(System Development Aid for IMS/VS On-Line Applications)。IMS/ESA(Enterprise System Architecture)対応版は「SAIL/ESA」。「IMS/SAIL」とも呼ばれる[1]。

概要

SAILは、オンラインシステムの構築、開発、保守、運用を支援する共通制御プログラム（ミドルウェア）であり、金融機関の勘定系システムなどで使用される。1980年代の第3次オンラインシステム構築時に、旧富士銀行と旧三菱銀行が日本IBMと協力して開発した[2]。

SAILの前提は、IBMメインフレームのz/OSなどのOS上で稼働するIMSトランザクションサーバーで、IMSのクラスタリング機能であるXRFも基本設計に組み込まれている。またデータベース管理システムは階層型のIMS-DBの他、リレーショナル型のDB2も使用できる。

SAILは金融機関で必要となる共通の基盤を提供するもので、ユーザーはSAILの提供する取引形態（メッセージ処理）、テーブル、マクロなどを使用して、業務を開発する。開発言語はPL/I、アセンブラーで、1998年にCOBOLが追加された。

2018年に日本IBMはSAILを、CAP-A（Common Application Control Package for Advanced Banking System、アプリケーション運用制御プログラム拡張版）やTIMES（The InforMation Production Executive System、データベース構築支援プログラム）とともに「金融機関向けDSEバンキングソリューション」と位置付けた[3]。

また2022年に日本IBMは「金融次世代勘定系ソリューション戦略」を発表し、複数行が単一のアプリケーションを共同利用するマルチバンク対応の推進のため、SAILの改修予定を表明した[4]。
