信仰
- 神の性質についての考え方のひとつで、土地の安全、個人の健康や財産などを守ることを期待して信仰される神、またはそれに準ずる存在。ガーディアン（英語: guardian）。守り神（まもりがみ）とも。
- 日本における「守護神」の語は12世紀の『江談抄』にはすでにみられる（コトバンク）。たとえば、『群書系図部集』第2（続群書類従完成会、p.442.）には、「鹿島の神（タケミカヅチ）、九州と常州の東西に社あって、日ノ本の守護神なり」「常州を本社とする」と記述される。

- 野球におけるクローザー（抑え投手）のこと。

- ラグビー（ユニオン、リーグ）におけるフルバックのこと。
- アメリカンフットボールにおけるセイフティのこと。
- バレーボールにおけるリベロのこと。
