Dictatura est imperium unius hominis, qui saepe dictator nominatur; temporibus autem hodiernis, ut mos est, dictatores titulis formalibus legitimisque (sicut duce, praesidente, rege) plerumque utuntur. Aliter dictum inter dictaturam homines unius hominis voluntati obtemperant.

Dictatura in Roma antiqua

Dictatura Romae antiquae ad tempus erat, ergo dissimilis tyrannidis, quamquam hodie vocabulum dictatura tyrannis esse putatur. Notissimi aetatis Romanae dictatores fuerunt Marcus Furius Camillus, Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus, Lucius Cornelius Sulla, Gaius Iulius Caesar.
