Archaeonectrus[1][2][3] is een geslacht van uitgestorven pliosauriërs uit het Vroeg-Jura (Sinemurien) van wat nu het zuidoosten van Engeland is. De typesoort is Archaeonectrus (oorspronkelijk Plesiosaurus) rostratus, benoemd door Sir Richard Owen in 1865,[4] die werd verplaatst naar zijn eigen geslacht door N.I. Novozhilov in 1964.[5] Het was een relatief kleine plesiosauriër van 3,67 meter lang.
De geslachtsnaam betekent 'oude zwemmer' van het Grieks archaios, "oeroud", en nektris, "zwemmer". De soortaanduiding betekent 'met de snuit'.
Het holotype is BMNH 38525, een skelet met schedel gevonden aan de kust van Lyme Regis.
